Practice Images/photoshoot- Digipak Planning

Today we went into Manchester with the band and took images of them in many different locations which we will use for the the Digipak. We used Saif's camera who is one of our fiends who is also one of the band members as the camera quality was very high and so it allowed us to take images which would look good enough for the digipak however we still have to see how the images look when the would be shrunk down and put on the digipak.

Below are some of the best images from the different locations where we took the images. We are at the moment undecided as to which image we will use as the front cover of the digipak but it will most likely be one of the images taken on the rooftop. This is because it is framed perfectly so that we can have the band name at the bottom of the image and the fact that you act see the band members faces create and enigma.

Location 1:
(The first location was in Manchester and for it we tried to create a rural feel to the images by using a more run down area and also have graffiti in the background.)

Location 2:
(For the second location we tried to go to a more well known area of Manchester and so took some photos outside of the O2 Ritz so that there could be Hegemony as the audience will find cultural similarities with the band.)

Location 3:
(For the 3rd location we tried to create more of a fun look to the band just for experimental reasons and though possible it could go on the inside cover of the digipak to give the target audience more of an insight into the band.)

Location 4:
(The 4th location was another location which we wanted to create more of a serious look to the band and so they we looked more serious in our facial expressions. This is another image which we may use on the inside cover depending on how we want the bands image to be in their "real life.")

 Location 6:
(For this location we wanted to revert back to creating and urban image and so we took pictures under a bridge which was slightly run down.)

 Location 7:
(These images are the images which we will most likely have as the front image for the digipak as it crates an enigma because the audience cant see the faces of the band and so they have to look at the inside cover to see the bands faces. It is also a good location for the front image as we have space at the bottom of the image to put the bands name in.)

 Location 8:
(This location is very similar to the 4th location as we want some image to give an insight into the band and so we took both serious and less serious images and will chose one based on the image we want to give the band.)

Location research- Digipak planning

For our digipak we will need images of the band to place on the cover and the back of the digipak and so we pan to go into Manchester and take multiple shots of the band in urban looking locations along with shot in Altrincham and Longhey field on t a rooftop as it is an idea that we had for the music video to show the band on a rooftop but we didn't do it for practicality reasons. However, we do believe that we can take some images which may be on the front of the Digipak from a rooftop.

Manchester:

Longhey Field:

Altrincham:

We have taken pictures in all of these locations and from them we will chose the ones we feel are the most appropriate for the digipak and where they should go. We want to create an urban feel to the band and that is why we chose these locations for the research as we found many places which had graffiti which would be in the shot.

Synergy

Many media products are in some way linked to an others and there is therefore synergy, this is apparent in music as bands have links between their music videos and the picture/ images of the band that are on the album or magazine covers. I have evidenced this below through looking at arctic monkeys music videos and magazine images:

This is useful as it shows how we have to keep the representation of the band the same in both the digipak and in the music video in order to create this synergy between the two products.

Final Product

From our audience feedback on the Rough edit we have made amendments to our product based on what the target audience enjoy about it and what they would change about the product. This is therefore the final product based on the changes that the target audience suggested in a focus group and the suggestions made by people we know who watched the product:

Draft layout of digipak- Digipak Planning

Below is the image of the template for the digipak that I will create and I have labelled which section will contain what image (front cover/back cover ect.) This will help me when it later comes to putting the images I have edited and created on the template as I will just be able to put them on and fill in the spines of the digipak.

Audience feedback (Rough Edit)

Now that we have finished the rough edit of our music video project we have attempted to get as much audience feedback as possible from asking people to watch the video and review it as well as having another focus group with the people from our previous group so that we can get the opinions of people who enjoy the genre as see how the video compares to what they expected from our alternative rock music video.

Verbal feedback-

From showing people that we know we have managed to gain insight into what they feel is wrong about the product and how they feel it could be changed. One of the main point which was a evident problem was that in some areas we had to find different shots as the camera work was poor and could be improved as so we searched through the shots we had of the bad as there was one scene which was pointed out towards the end and we changed the shot. Another shot people didn't like was when Alex first enters the kitchen and so we have changed that shot to one which is more stable and further away making it a mid shot instead of a close up.
Upon first watch many people pointed out that the establishing shot of Alex and the mannequin is too long and that it should somehow be changed and so we have done this as Bayley bladed the shot so that we could add in a different angle for the same length of time to give some variety to the opening scene so it isn't taken up by mostly one shot. Instead of this long opening shot we added a close up of Alex and the mannequin.

Focus Group-
This is a video of the first focus group we did which shows what the target audience wanted in the music video:

This is the most recent focus group that we did where the participants talk about what they enjoyed about the video we created partly based on what our first participants said in the first focus group and what the 2nd group would change about it:

Experimental shot types research-Digipak Research

In many magazines there are lots of images used of the band the article is about and in many of the shots there are lots of different shot types used. I have looked into this to see the shot types used in articles writing about bands in the genre so that I can take inspiration when we take images of the band for our digipak:
